The most extreme slides in Mayá, Lost Mayan Kingdom.

Honoring the truth in YOLO, my friends Alex, Victor, Sam and I, were planning a cruise trip to the Western Caribbean. We wanted fiesta and music, but we also wanted to go beyond and explore new ways to test our spirit of adventure. So, when looking online for the perfect route, we discovered a port that promised fun and adventure, that was exactly what we needed: A trip to Costa Maya.

With so many things to do in Mahahual, the little village in the jungle where Costa Maya is located, I am glad we chose to spend the day at Maya, Lost Mayan Kingdom, an adventure park with amazing reviews in Trip Advisor about the most extreme waterslides and zip lines in the Mexican Caribbean.

Once there, my 3 friends and I were ready to have every air and water adventure at Mayá Park.

We got to Costa Maya early in the morning, so we went directly to have a light breakfast because we knew Mayá was waiting for us, and if we wanted to enjoy it, we had to be completely energized.

Once we ate, we were ready for adventure. The first thing that pulls your eyes as you enter the park is the gigantic pyramid from which these enormous waterslides start. Despite all the amazing attractions that Mayá had for us, we were more excited about the highest waterslides. We really wanted to feel the speed and adrenaline that comes with sliding down from the heights, but we saved the best for the last. We first started with the ziplines, those were amazing, but, truth be told, once we were done with them and jumped onto the waterslides, everything became even better. We took the rides in the lower levels to warm up, saving the best for the end. Once we were done with everything else, all we wanted was adrenaline and adventure, so we went to face:

The most extreme waterslides in Mayá, Lost Mayan Kingdom.

Lord of the Storm

Tell me about a big storm!!! This waterslide has 59 ft of height and only takes 4 seconds to go down. It was perfect for racing against my friends, as it has 4 lines. We went down at high speed using a mat. In our first race, Victor was the winner but after that, I won every single time!

Underworld/Xibalbá

On the same level as the Pyramid we found the waterslide Underworld. For me, this was the most extreme waterslide. The freefall at the beginning of the ride leaves your heart up in the air. The sensation I felt when I jumped was a mix of adrenaline and fear, but it was so worth it. With a height of 59 ft. and a 90° of inclination, it took me only three seconds to go down.

The Witch

Believe me, this is the highest and fastest waterslide of Mayá Park. It goes down from the top of the pyramid. That means a fall from 78 ft. of pure adrenaline. I must admit it, I was scared when I saw the distance between the waterslide and the floor, but when I was told that in only three seconds I would be splashing the water at the end of the tunnel, I said: “Why not?” So, I jumped, leaving my fears behind.

All of the other activities at the Lost Mayan Kingdom were so cool, 2 zip lines, an awesome Zip-Coaster, 2 pools, but believe me, if you are looking for adrenaline and extreme activities, you must come to Maya and go down these waterslides I told you about. You won´t regret it!

Discover the legend of Xtabay. The inspiration for the most extreme toboggan in Maya, Lost Mayan Kingdom.

At the beautiful seashores of the Mexican Caribbean, lies a waterpark built around the legends of an old civilization, the Mayans. Located in Mahahual, the lazy town that houses Costa Maya, this amazing waterpark, Mayá, Lost Mayan Kingdom, guards many mysteries for you to come and discover, and the only way to unveil them is venturing into the jungle to test your courage.

Among the mystical legends that come to live in this amazing place, there is one that gives you goosebumps and has inspired the most extreme waterslide in Mayá, Lost Mayan Kingdom:

Xtabay, the witch, a Mayan woman whose real name was Utz-colel and who, after killing her sister to steal her beauty was given by the evil spirits the opportunity to traverse the worlds of the living and the death. With her incomparable beauty and her cold heart, she waited under the ceiba tree to lure her victims into doom, throwing them over a cliff, taking their hearts to keep herself alive.

Only the bravest warriors were able to escape her spells and get to the other side of the rainforest, and they were honored as Eagle Knights. Now you have the opportunity to defeat the Witch Xtabay, sliding down this toboggan that will pump up your adrenaline from start to end.

Falling down from the top of the Great Pyramid in the middle of the waterpark, the Xtabay waterslide has a tremendous height of 78 ft, but the thrilling part goes beyond the height, the secret lies on its inclination, which will let you fall at full speed, making you feel as if you were really falling from a cliff.

Every one of the waterslides in Maya Park has its own charm, of course, the Jurakán and its funnel are gloriously fun, and racing against your friends over the Lord of the Storm is a must when coming to the park, but Xtabay gets the crown as the fastest and most terrific toboggan in the Caribbean.

Now, before you jump to face the witch, let us give you a few tips to better enjoy your sliding.

1.- Cross your arms against your chest.

Yes, you will feel as if your soul and heart were escaping your body, and that will make you want to spread both arms and legs, but be strong, be brave, and keep it all together until the end. Hey, that´s how you become an Eagle Knight!

2.- Scream!
Let the adrenaline rush flow in the air! It´s a passage rite, you are allowed and e

ncouraged to make all the noise you want. So, scream from the top of your lungs for the Mayan god to hear you. Your ride will only last for 3 seconds, but those will be enough to put your body in the addictive state to make you go back and face that Xtabay again.

3.- Just do it!
We know it, it doesn´t seem like the sanest thing to do, you are on vacation in Costa Maya, you could be anywhere else, on a hammock on the beach, sipping margaritas and piña coladas, but no, you are an adventurer, you have decided to join the expedition to the Lost Mayan Kingdom and here you are, so, when facing the witch, Just do it! Don´t think about anything else, just slide down and conquer!

A hassle-free way to keep the memories of your visit to Maya.

Let me tell you something. When I am with my family, every moment is unforgettable, but I love capturing every memory in a picture, so when I look at them, I can relive those special moments every time I want. And there is a place that gave me just what my picture-craving-self needed: Maya, Lost Mayan Kingdom, the waterpark in Costa Maya.

A few days ago, during my annual autumn cleaning, I found the flashdrive with the pictures that we got in our last family vacations to Costa Maya. We took a cruise to the Caribbean and one of our stops was at this unique port.

Those vacations to the Western Caribbean were extraordinary, I remember my kids having one of the greatest adventures in their life.

Although we visited a lot of amazing places during our cruise, our favorite was Mayá, Lost Mayan Kingdom, where we had a lot of fun and many stories to tell.

So, now, here we are, looking at pictures. Can you imagine the scene? Autumn cleaning, everyone already in pajamas, gathered around the TV, the hubby making popcorn to enjoy the pictures on the screen… My daughter and son were all excited to see themselves on TV! I felt lucky for having my digital memories.

Picture after picture we were smiling. There it was the Mayan Village, the people flying on the ziplines, the wonderful waterslides, everything we enjoyed at Maya Park.

I could practically feel again how much our kids enjoyed the expedition.

My kiddos were so excited to tap their bracelets on the photo spots after every picture was taken, and then, as if a strange magic was calling them, they ran directly to the waterslides to slide down time after time. My husband and I were running behind them, but they were flying!

When we got to the Monkey’s Island, my daughter was already soaked. She was ready to get more fun, but I was more concerned about our stuff than any other thing, so I asked my husband to look for the lockers. It was great to have a place where our things were safe, so we could enjoy the day without worries.

All the pictures were so funny, my husband never takes good pictures, so looking at the ones that the photo spots at Maya shot, I felt so good about having bought the photo package. It is really a good deal having good photos of your adventures.

For me, as a parent, it is amazing to visit a place that really gives you a hassle-free experience. That day I forgot the sun blocker and the bug repellent at the cruise. We were worried because our skin gets burned so easy and the day was particularly sunny. The port was not far from Maya but running back and forth would have been a loss of time, time we didn´t have, as the ship was leaving port at 5:00 pm!

We had to seize the day. Again, worries away, fortunately there is a store inside the park, La Aduana, where I found everything I needed to spend the perfect day with my family. So, with a layer of sun blocker and bug repellent on. We were ready to keep enjoying the park!

It is amazing all the details you can remember only by looking at pictures.

Watching the kids having fun at the Monkey’s Island and my husband relaxing on the Lazy River made me want to sail to Costa Maya again.

The best picture and absolutely, the funniest moment was at the water bucket splash. We have the photo at the exact moment when the water was falling down. Everybody was on the floor waiting for it! Gosh! It really made me want to go back!

It is chilly now in Minessota, but when we finished watching the pics, we took to our children to bed and I could notice my husband had the same idea I got in my mind. So, guess who is booking a new cruise to Costa Maya now? Yes, we are. And of course, a visit to Maya, Lost Mayan Kingdom is already on the shopping list.

3 amazing reasons to visit Maya Waterpark

All my life I wished for an experience that combined adrenaline and relaxation. I could never imagine that I could find this it in a waterpark. A place that invited me to live an expedition on air and water and which made me feel part of the jungle that surrounds it. That’s what I lived when my family and I visited Mayá Lost Mayan Kingdom during our cruise to Costa Maya.

While planning our vacation, we planned every tour and activity well ahead of time, but my parents, my brother and I wanted to keep some time apart, especially for adventure, we were looking for an exciting place where we could stay the whole day and never get bored.

It was our first time visiting Costa Maya, so we were looking for things to do in this destination. Among the many activities on the website, I found a waterpark. It was perfect for us, it had waterslides and zip lines full of adventure, but also, big pools where my parents could relax.

After we visited I have for you the 3 reasons why your family needs to go to Costa Maya.

1.- TripAdvisor knows best.

Searching for more info about Costa Maya, I found a lot of recommendations on TripAdvisor, but there was one that made me want to book right on that moment: the thrilling air and aquatic experiences at Mayá Lost Mayan Kingdom. I learned there that this amazing adventure park was ranking 18th on the “Best waterparks in the world”. I also learned that it is located just a few minutes away from Costa Maya Port, so I told my mom: We need to go to Maya! Our vacation itinerary was finally complete.

When we arrived at the park, the emotion and the adrenaline had completely taken over us. We were ready to join the expedition!

2.- Ziplines and Waterslides for adrenaline junkies

At first sight, I felt that we were in a Mayan village, but we kept walking and saw an amazing pyramid full of giant slides. My heartbeat accelerated. I heard people yelling and laughing above our heads, my brother and I raised our heads and we saw people crossing the air on the amazing zip lines that connected all the park. We turned to see my parents, who with their eyes just told us: Go ahead! So, we happily ran towards the pyramid.

The zip lines were amazing! The park has two circuits: “Eagle” and “Toucan”. I really enjoyed both of them, but the Toucan took my breath away with the views, it was so wonderful, the sea, the jungle, mother nature alive and so close to me. I wished that moment could last forever.

From the air, I discovered other secrets in the park. A place called “Monkey Island”, where the little ones were having fun. A big pool where my parents were relaxing. “The Kukulkan”, a mix between a roller coaster and a zip line and last but not less, coming out of the pyramid were eight slides waiting for us to jump on them, and so we did.

3.- The ultimate challenge to become a Mayan Warrior.

After sliding and just when we thought there were no more attractions, we found “The Mayan sacrifice inside the pyramid, an 80ft free-fall jump which I couldn’t resist. My brother was afraid to jump but not me. I accepted the challenge and it definitely was one of the best experiences of my life.

At the end of the day, with all the adrenaline squeezed off my body, I joined my family at the lazy river, the perfect way to close our day.

I had a blast! And most important: I have all the evidence! Before leaving the park, we stopped at “La Aduana”, the shop inside the park, were we packed on souvenirs for friends and family and where I found all my pictures! Our visit to Maya, Lost Mayan Kingdom will always be a day to remember.
